Hi there :

I descend from a Charles O'Neill of Clonkeen, Drummaul, Antrim. His daughter Anne married Hugh O'Neill Esq. of Carlane and was mother of my ancestor Felix Cunningham O'Neill. Anyone have any idea who these O'Neills descend from ? I only know they were mentioned in the Marchioness of Antrim's will.

  • Hello
I would suggest a few places for your research.
O'Neill, as I'm sure you are aware is an historic and significant surname for much of Ireland, especially the North and North West region.
    www.johngrenham.com/surnames
is the best place to start to get an understanding of the O'Neills role in the history of Ireland and to establish where this particular ancestor fits.

A colleague at Derry Genealogy may also be able to assist at genealogy@derrystrabane.com

The Ulster Historical Foundation, Belfast, are also a useful source for published research and archives and a potential source of names for family research.

For traditional records such as birth, marriage and deaths, I'd suggest www.rootsireland.ie
    a general search across Counties.
