Looking for information about my gr gr grandparents John J Crowley and Johanna Shea (O'Shea) who were living in Castlecove, Kerry, according to the 1901 and 1911 census forms. They had 12 children, including my grandfather John Francis Crowley (1886-1969).

John J Crowley was born in Sneem in 1853 to parents John Crowley (1812-1886) and Johanna Fitzgerald (unknown).  I'm looking for info on the Shea and Fitzgerald family lines.  They were RC and lived almost exclusively in Sneem, County Kerry.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may have difficulty finding out more about your Shea and Fitzgerald lines. The Sneem RC records start in August 1845 and go to November 1848. There is a nine year gap in records until November 1857. Here is a link to the parish register for 1845-early 1881.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0650  The free site www.irishgenealogy.ie has the Sneem records until 1881.

  • Thank you for your reply. From the 1851 census I found Hanoria Crowley, daughter of Julia Fitzgerald and John Crowley, who has the Presbytery in Sneem as her address. Does this mean she was working there or that she was taken  into care?

Not sure what the Presbytery address means.
