Dear Ireland XO,

My great great Grandfather John Drummey emigrated to the United States in 1913 and married Julia Maher/Magher (different spellings in different records). the 1901 census had them on SHears Streeet in Abbeyside. His siblings with the same Surname are as follows Alice, Anastsia, Jmaes, Patrick, Maurice, and Augustine. I had study abroad in Ireland and was able to visit the village during my town there. I have been curiuous to see if any of the sibilings had stayed or if any family remained in Ireland. His daughter, Alice Howard, is my grandmother and had been in cotact with some family but that was long ago. My grandfather has the surename Howard and his mother's maiden name was Donovan somewhere around Oountry Cork. I would love to discover if I have any long lost cousins that still remain in Ireland. Thank you in advance to help help and insights this group may bring.

Best,

J. Rogers

Could you clarify the spelling of the surname for your great-great-grandfather? There were no Drummer records in Co. Cork in the 1901 and 1911 censuses and no Drummer births anywhere in Ireland from 1890-1911. Thanks!

It appears that John Drummey and Julia Maher married in Dungarvan on September 4 1919 See third record at this link   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…

John's father was shown as James  and Julia's father is Michael both were sailors

Have you considered DNA testing? You may have matches with descendants of the Howard and Donovan lines.

  • Dear Roger,

Thank you for the detailed information. I had the surname spelt wrong in the original post, it is Drummey!  John Drummey was my great grandfather on my maternal grandmother's side. It seems to be alot more inofrmation for them. I have found some on my maternal grandfather's side, his father was Howard and his mother's maiden name was Donovan. I have not looked at DNA testing yet. There seems to be a few different ones but I am not sure which may be the right one to go with. Thank you again!
