The main cemetery in Fermoy in 1885 was Kilcrumper historic cemetery. I have a record of the headstone inscriptions for historic Kilcrumper and there is no record of William. That doesn't mean he wasn't buried there, but there are no records from that time. I will ask a few people and if I find anything further I will make another post.

Thank you for the information.  Would that cemetery be associated with St. Patrick's church in Fermoy and if it is, do you know if the church might have a record of where he was buried?

No, the cemetery is run by Cork County Council, and there are records from about 1900 in what is referred to as Old Kilcrumper. Burials before that, and some after that, were in what is referred to as historic Kilcrumper, for which there are no records of burials except for headstone inscriptions. I have all the headstone inscriptions from historic Kilcriumper, the records from 1900 to about 1940 and many of the records from 1940 to 1970. Just let me know what burial record you are looking for and I will have a look through what I have.

I would be interested in any information you might have for any Lenihan's buried there.  The only dates of death I know for my Fermoy Lenihan Family is William August 18, 1885 and his daughter Ellen Lenihan June 19, 1885.

I learned today from a newspaper death notice that Frank Hanley, a Publican, of 5 St. Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork was buried in Kilcrumper Cemetery following hsi death on 19 Feb 1970 in St. inbarre's Hospital, Cork. As I believe that the enw Cemetery opened in 1973 I presume taht he was buried in the Old Cemetery. Would you have a grave stone inscription for him in your records? Basically, I want to ascertain when his wife, Ellen (Nell) Hanley nee Hennessy died as I presume she would have been buried with him.  She was still alive in 1972 as I found a newspaper notice from that year of her application for a renewal of a vinter's licence. Thus far, I have not been able to find either a death record for her or a newspaper death notice.Many thanks in anticipation.

There was a lapse between closing the old cemetery and opening the new cemetery and in thatt time there were some burials in Castlehyde, a few miles from Fermoy. I will check it out fro you. Also, as the dates are fairly recent, I can ask a few people.

I checked for the burial of Frank Hanley (and Ellen) and couldn't find anything. There are three types of records at Kilcrumper 1) a record of who purchased the burial plot, 2) the names on the headstones, 3) the records of actual burials. Sometimes, but not always, all the records match! Between the plot purchasers and the headstones, there was only one Hanley burial recorded and that was Richard Hanley. I also checked under Hennessy without any success. There are about 10% of the headstones that have to be recorded yet. I will get to this in the next few weeks and will let you know if I find anything. Also, the Council office where the actual burials records are kept is closed due to the pandemic. When possible, I will check this third record set just in case there is anything there. I will let you know if I find anything.

There is a very worn plaque in the cemetery for Ellen Hanley, Redmond Street. It is difficult to read the date but it could be 1977 or 1957. The plaque also remembers her daughter Molly who died in 1979. There is no mention of Frank Hanley on headstones or in burial records. We haven't got the burial records yet for 1977 and when we do they may help with Ellen. In the meantime, Molly or Redmond street may be some help.

There are Linehans buried in Old Kilcrumper, (as distinct from Historic Kilcrumper). They are Peter 1947, Bridie 1949 and a son Paddy interred in Australia; John (from Emmet Street) 1949; James 1959, Josephine 1977 (James and Josephine were from Lombardstown).
