Hi I am looking for information about the descendants of Ellen Farrell who was born in 1865 and lived in Ardagh East just outside Edgeworthstown I think.  In particular I am looking for informtion about James Farrell or John Farrell.  I've found both of them on the census in 1901 and 1911, although James Farrell is incorrectly down as Sorrell ( I think), but I can't find anything else.

Thanks

Ben

Not sure I have the correct family but there is an Ellen Farrell in Ballinree and Ballymoat townland who was a 36 year old widow with four sons. Is this the correct familY?

You are looking for descendants of this family. As you likely know the surname Farrell is very common in Co. Longford. The only records we have available to us online after 1911 are civil marriage and death records at the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie    There are many John and James Farrell records to sort thru.

Do you know the name of the husband of Ellen Farrell and what was her maiden name?

    Have you considereda DNA test?

  • Hi thanks for responding.  Basically I'm interested in tracing a couple of her sons because one of them will be my great grandad.  Infuriatingly we're not sure which.  A couple of her sons emmigrated to the States, but the trail dries up when looking for John Farrell.  I found James Farrell who was incorrectly I believe down as Sorrell in the 1911 census, but after his marriage to a Rose Ann Morgan they seem to disapear!  It does make it harder when everyone seems to have very similar names!!

  • I searched for John Farrell marriages in the Longford registration district from 1911-1921 at the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie   I did not see a likely marriage for your john Farrell.

  • Thanks Roger.  That's useful, I obviously have to widen my search again.

    Much appreciated.
