Julia Lanihan/Lenhan/Leneghan etc

Hello.  I'm looking for information regarding my great great Grandma who was born in Kildare around 1826.  Her father was called Daniel according the her marriage certificate.  She married James Jenkins from Dublin on the 8th August 1852 at St Peter's, Bradford, Yorkshire, England and they had three children, Mary Ann, Thomas and James. James is my great grandad.

Although I've information about her life in Yorkshire I know nothing except Julia was born in Kildare.  It would be brilliant to know of my Irish family.

I searched the subscription site FindMyPast.ie and they have a May 25 1826 baptismal record for a Julia Lenehan with father Daniel Lenehan and mother Mary Lenehan. The church was Ballymore Eustace. NOTE: I looked at the parish register for May 1826 but was not able to see the entry for Julia which raised a question whether transcriber showed the wrong month or year. Also, the maiden name of the mother was not shown on this register (at least not in 1826) so Mary Lenehan was her married name.   Here is a link to the register https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0463   You may want to scan the register and see if you can see Julia's record.

I did some further searching and located a baptismal record for a Thomas Lenehan November 8 1829 at Ballymore Eustace. Father was Daniel Lenehan and mother was Mary Walsh.

Let me know if you have further questions.

  • Hello Roger,

Thank you for your most helpful reply.

Now I have some dates and names for Julia and her family which is wonderful.  When I followed the link for Julia's Baptism

    404 - File not Found

The page you have requested does not seem to exist. Please check your URL.

appeared, perhaps because I do not subscribe to the Irish FindMyPast.  It's good to know that Julia had at least one brother back in Ireland when she travelled over to Yorkshire.  Such a shame that James and Julia worked all their life yet both died in a local Union Workhouse.

Now, I can attempt to follow her parents and brother and maybe find some information about them too.

    Thank you,

    Patricia

    Patricia:

Another try with the link for Ballymore Eustace

    https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0463

If the link still does not work use this general link  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/  and then enter Ballymore Eustace in the search bar.

  • Hi Patricia, just googled 'Mary Ann Lenehan' (my great great great grandma) and your post popped up - UK census/marriage cert shows born Kildare 1830s and married James Boyes, Malton, North yorkshire 1855. Could she be the sister of Julia I wonder??? Best wishes, Clare

  • Hello Clare,
Thanks for your post. I honestly don't know if your Mary Ann is Julia's sister. Yet Julia and James Jenkins had two boys and one girl. Boys James and Thomas after their dad and grandad. Girl Mary Ann could be named after your Mary Ann!
I've looked at Julia's marriage certificate to see if a witness was Boyes, but they're William Holmes and Graham Smith.
Someone suggested Julia may have a brother named Thomas, again I don't know.
Julia married in Bradford and lived most of her married life in Huddersfield. Mary Ann didn't spend time in Huddersfield did she? Although Bradford and Malton are in Yorkshire they're not close to each other. How did James Boyes earn a living?
I need to look Mary Ann Lenehan up on ancestry.co.uk as looked Lenehan previously without success.
Sorry not to be helpful. I really struggle with this part of my family.
    Regards, Patricia

  • Thanks anyway Patricia- same, I dont know any more detail other than that James Boyes and his sons worked as agri labours / grooms / gardeners. Malton has Fitzwilliam estates, may be of significance as they owned a good chunk of Wicklow too at that time. Good luck with your search!
