I am searching for any records relating to Patrick Cassady (spelling adopted in U.S.) and his wife Mary, I do not know her maiden name. They had at least 5 children in Ireland and two more after emigrating to the U.S. As far as I know the first U.S. census in which they are enumerated is Warren County, Iowa, USA in 1860. There are several mistakes on this census. The mother's name and the oldest daughter's name are reversed on the census. All children were born in Ireland except James, who was born in Ohio and possibly Ann. The information I have is that they emigrated from Monaghan, Ireland to the U. S.:
Patrick Cassady b. 1815 in Ireland
Mary Cassady b. 1816 in Ireland
Catherine b. 1838 in Ireland
Patrick b.1839 in Ireland
Rose Anna b. 1844 in County Monaghan, Ireland
John b. 1846 in Ireland
Frank b. 1848 in Ireland
Ann b. 1850 in Ireland?
James b. 1856 in Ohio, USA
Any information is greatly appreciated!

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and also the subscription site FindMyPast and did not find any good baptismal record leads for your family in Co. Monaghan. Possibly your family attended an RC parish which no longer has records back to the 1840s.
Have you considered DNA testing?

Thank you for your help. I have done DNA testing with Ancestry.com which showed links in Fermanagh and Cavan. I have ancestors from Cavan but I am not aware of any from Fermanagh. Unfortunately none of the DNA matches on Ancestry have any more information about Ireland than I do.
The other half of my family is named King. The information I have about them is:
Hugh King b. 1805 married Margaret McCauley b. 1815 and they had two children (that I know of) in Ireland and two children in Pennsylvania, USA. They emigrated prior to 1850 (they are in the 1850 U.S. Census). Their children were: Michael H. b. 1835 in Ireland, Hugh Vincent b. 1837 in Ireland, Francis b. 1848 in Pennsylvania and John b. 1850 in Pennsylvania. Michael moved to Iowa where he met and married Rose Ann Cassady. According to a biography of Michael he was born in County Cavan and Rose was born in County Monaghan. Is there a better place to submit my DNA for Ireland ancestors?
I appreciate your help.

Kristen:
I looked for Hugh King and Margaret McCauley and did not find a marriage or baptismal records for the two sons. I used the subscription site Roots Ireland and one caution, Roots does not have any Co. Fermanagh church records.
Regarding your DNA, Ancestry has the biggest data base by far and you won't find a site which is a better place for Irish ancestors. You should be able to upload your Ancestry data to My Heritage, Familly Tree DNA and Gedmatch which will allow you to expand your DNA matches. The big frustation for me is that many people I match never respond to e-mail messages I've sent asking to look for family connections.

Thank you for the information, Roger. I have experienced the same problem trying to communicate on Ancestry too. I do appreciate the information about the records from Co. Fermanagh and also your help searching all the family names. Maybe someday I'll stumble on the link.
Best regards,
Kristen
