My great grandfather Thomas Martin was born in Cavan around 1859. He emigrated to Australia in 1878 and ship records indicate that his father was Patt (Patrick). Following long term research over the last few years and after examining the ancestral records of shared matches on Ancestry.com.au, I am increasinggly confident that the family came from Templeport in Cavan.
I had long wondered why Thomas called his first child Julia Darcy, until I recently came across shared matches who had Darcys in their tree. In Templeport matches, there was definitely a link beween Martin and Darcy families and it seemed likely that Thomas had given his daughter the name Darcy as a nod to his maternal line.
I was excited to find a birth record for a Thomas Martin, born 6 November 1857 in Culliagh, Templeport, to a Patrick Martin and Susan Darcy. Sponsors were Patrick Martin and Mary McTuigue, but I have no idea where to go next to seek confirmation that Patrick and Susan are indeed my ancestors. Certainly, the name Susan has not continued down the line and I can't find any record of a Julia Darcy from around this time. Any suggestions or help would be most gratefully received.

Hello Kerry, you may be reaching the extent of RC Catholic records for the area, here is a link to the RC Registers which show baptisms and marriages only commenced in 1836 with deaths from 1827, you can only search by date or read. https://registers.nli.ie/
On the good news front you may not have seen this site which has links to various information on the area, including links to the census for 1841 and 1851 of which only scraps survive, I see D'Arcy there and one mistranscribbed as Darey, checked the origional and D'Arcey to me. I think the way it is written points to a Hugenout name if you want to check that out, also there are links to the burial registers for the area and while no Martin in the census that I saw, there are lots of dead Martins with townlands here, dead D'Arceys too, difficult to know how they relate to you but shows the townland where they live at least. http://www.bawnboy.com/index.html
Templeport is in Bawnboy, also have assisted people here before and a lot appear to have gone to Emily Township in Ontario, Canada.
Also you appear to have done DNA and there is a Cavan gedmatch Facebook page, apply to join, there are another two private facebook pages on Cavan Genealogy and IGP's Cavan Genealogy if you want to see if anyone else is on your track.
As Templeport adjoins the county of Leitrim it may be worth checking out there too. You can locate civil townlands here to help you get a picture of where they lived https://www.townlands.ie/
Are you familiar with Griffiths Valuation where tenants and landlords were recorded circ 1848 to 1864. You can search here and there are four entries for Patrick Martin in Templeport, may be the same person or different person but the address should indicate as 3 are in the one townland, also two D'Arcey in Tempelport (Darcey or Darcy) same address as some of the Martin people.
I will look for a marriage later tonight.

Hello Kerry, i found the baptism of your man but no siblings or marriage. I think the reason we cannot find the marriage is . she would have married in her own home parish, and I see from the Registers site above that the 3 adjoining parishes do not have records until much later which is surprising to me but no unheard of. If you look at the parishes and click on them you can see the relevant dates, there is a chance the records exist but were not recorded at the time and this is being examined but do not hold your breath.
With no siblings and your use of the name D'Arcy as a Christian name (still done here by the way) it occurred to me may she died and sure enough there is a death of a Mrs Martin at that addess in January 1860, you should find it on that site about Bawnboy, (Civil records for all only commence in 1864) apparently young girls who suffered malnutrion during the famine (1845 to 1848 or 1852 in some places) died in childbirth or after it. Here are the two records from Roots Ireland a subscription site, you can join for a short period if you wish.

That in my view is some amount of money to pay at the time for a funeral.
The Griffiths and Townlands sites will locate Cullagh for you and you can get the plot number from an Icon on the Griffiths site and with a lot of patience use the map icon and see the old plot location and where it is now, it should be much the same as it is still a rural area.
