Barrett from Breahig

Sorry. In previous post, I meant children were baptized to 6 different James Barrett fathers with different wives. The children were not all named James. I'm trying to understand how there could be this many James Barrett's at the same time in Breahig. ThNks!

Breahig was a very large townland-804 acres and as you saw in theTithe records there were at least five differet Barretts leasing land: Edward, Edmund, James, Pat and John (maybe Edward and Edmund were the same person).

 I looked at the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie which you likely also reviewed and only saw three James Barrett baptismal records between 1820 and 1830 in Breahig in Castleisland parish. I believe the 1825 James son of Edward and Bridget O'Rourke in October 1825 died in infancy and was followed by another James almost nine months later father Edmund Barrett and mother Bridget Rourke. The third record was in December 1828 father Patrick Barrett and mother Margaret Foulou. Maybe I missed some? 

In the early part of the 19th century, it would be common to have a number of families with the same surname in the same townland particularly one as large as Breahig.

The 1853 Griffiths only listed three Barrett records in Breahig (Andrew, Edward and Thomas)  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/kerry/ballincuslane.htm          Likely there was a lot of emigration and certainly An Gorta Mor.

Thanks Roger- Yes I got my James Barrett's from the Irishgenealogy website.   And yes, there were 2 James in the Edmund/Bridget Rourke family you mention, which is mine. The second James lived as he was a sponsor for sisters Bridget child in Chicago. And yes -I had 5, not 6 James' married to: Catherine Riordan, Honora Herlihy, Joanna O'Leary, Helen Mulcahy, and Catherine Galvin.Maybe Joanna O'Leary and Honora Herlihy are the same person just horribly misspelled at one point?  I think some say Brehig and some say Breahig. Anyway it is sort of odd they all disappear. Not sure I will be able to figure out relationships among all these Barrett's tho. Thanks!! 

Whoops there were 6. James and Elizabeth Barry (Humphrey b 1823). Humphrey is a different name for this family.
