Polly the death cert for Catherine, Bentins Cottages, Castletown, Dundalk is for the 28 February 1946, she died in the county hospital. The name is given as Catherine Monaghan (I have seen your spelling used on names and possibly the clerk just used the spelling as in County Monaghan, you can see the register entry here https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ click on civil and sign in but it is free.

It is unlikely in my view that two people of the same name died in the same place around the same time. If hte headstone has the address to match that should clinch it, I am not in a position to see the headstone as I live over 25 miles away but there is a Louth Genealogy Facebook page and you may find someone there who knows the person, it is a private group or you could search the grave online in places like Find A Grave.

There has been a lot of chat on the Facebook page about the old Castletown Graveyard etc but assume you are referring to the one on the north road out of Dundalk town.

Hi Pat thank you this is the death certificate I purchased. My only problem is that on that certificate her husband is down as labourer. He was infact a butcher.......but may have been out of work at the time an his age.  The reason I've been in contact with St Patrick's is because their youngest son William Oliver Monahan 1926 had no birth certificate and we needed a copy of his baptism certificate, I discovered through the Archdiocese that he was baptised in St Patrick's. . Although Patsy tells me he has an entry 3rd-5th March there are no further details so no grave number.......I had hoped by finding that a name of Matthew Monahan would be down as her husband on purchase of grave or if it was already a family grave who paid for it to be opened and the funeral.  I do have an account with Fined a Grave and I couldn't locate her.  We also know there was another son who never came to Liverpool with Matthew and William Oliver. All I know about him was he was a boxer.......but know one knows when he died. As for Castletown Graveyard, St Patrick's or any other I'm stuck !  Everyone in the Archdiocese, the Archives and St Patrick's have been wonderful and so helpful.  We need to confirm Catherine so her death certificate along with Matthew's can confirm the children's Irish Heritage. Hi Suez or Polly, I have a subscription to the British Newspaper Archive and see a Ray Monahan boxing in 1963, in the UK, this appears to be a late for your family but if he was born around 1930 maybe not, not sure how it helps you mind.

There is a Louth site here but cannot see how it will assist, the Catherine Monahan mentioned is buried in Drogheda in 1965, I have the graveyard transcriptions. http://www.jbhall.clahs.ie/ 

Also the census for 1926 will be released that year depsite attempts to have it brought forward, there was no census in 1921 as the War of Independence was going on. The 1911 and 1901 are online free in case you are unaware.

Hi Pat thank for this. My user name is Polly but my name is Sue.  I think your right the death certificate I have is the right one for Catherine Monahan. We know Matthew and William arrived in Liverpool 1946 after her death. I also know there is a partial record of a burial in St Patrick's for a Catherine Monahan on 3rd March 1946........but neither St Patrick's or Dundalk council hold any further details. I can't expect someone to find the grave for me without a plot number.  As for Frank it's bac to the drawing board to narrow his DoB down I think.  Will keep you posted many thanks Suex
