I'm looking for any information on an Edward Barry. He was born sometime around 1800 and married a woman named Mary Riley. They had at least one child named Edward (my ggg-grandfather) who was born 2 March 1828 and immigrated to the US around 1851ish.
Family lore has us originating in County Cork and Edward Jr's obituary lists his parish as "Arbadna", which as far as I can tell isn't actually a parish. But then I thought perhaps the reporter was writing it out phonetically, so perhaps Aghadown?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Patrick would it be this one https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0003 Aghada it is actually close to Queenstown, now Cobh, catholic records commence in 1815 for baptisms and May 1838 for marriages. However I see no records on Roots Ireland to stand this up at all, while a lot of places would not have records at this remove it should be for this place, I also could not find a marriage of a Barry / Reilly, the only baptism I see is an 1823 one in Rathdown, Wicklow, Edward born to an Edward and mother is just Mary, this is about 150 miles north of where we are, the civil areas of Ireland can be seen here, names may not be as found locally on occassion but it a good way of seeing where places are https://www.townlands.ie/
McLysaghts book of Irish Surnames says the Barry name came from Barry in Wales during the Norman Invasion in 1170, it is most commonly found in Cork but is found all over the country.
Good Luck

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. I knew going in this was going to be the literal "needle in a haystack" search. Given the lack of information my family has passed down and the apparent inaccuracy of what has been passed down, I know it's going to be difficult. But at least you've given a place to start, which I greatly appreciate.
