I am seeking information about my uncle Francis Donal Martin. He was born in 1916 in Tyrone N. Ireland and died in 1961 in Dublin. I know that he was in the police force in Dublin at Dublin Castle and would like to find any records of and about him.

  • Hello Hil, the death is recorded here under civil records in 1961 and you can view the record for free, his birth should be there too, https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ 

    There is a Garda Museum here https://www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-history/the-garda-museum-at-dublin… and they may have some service records, not sure if they would be available as it is in living memory but you could ask by email, it is currently closed as you can read on the site.

  • Not sure if you have seen his birth record...
    RootsIreland has a transcription of Francis’s birth. B. 21 Aug 1916 in Fivemiletown. Parents: James Martin, a tailor; Margaret Fox. You can see the birth register at irishgenealogy.ie.
