Looking for information on James Hornet Hornett or Harnett. Married Bridget Hayes and settled in the Plattsburgh, NY area, near the Canadian border. He was my Great-Great Grandfather. My Great Grandfather was David Bernard Hornett who married Mary Lucy Murtagh. They lived in that same area. My Grandfather was Arthur Matthew Hornett, who married Anne Bernadette O'Brien. They lived in Utica, NY

Do you have information on whether the marriage of James Harnett and Bridget Hayes was in Ireland or New York State? Do you have an approximate year of birth for James Harnett? Any parental information?

  • Roger,

James was born circa 1810 in Enniskeane County Cork. Yes, he and Bridget Hayes Hornett had several children in Ireland, before emigrating to Upstate New York. They had several more on Altona, a Town close to Plattsburgh. I don't have any parental information for James or Bridget Hayes. Bridget died in New York State at age 44. Somewhere, we found that James married a Johanna ? as a second marriage.

Enniskeane baptismal records start in November 1813 and since I did not see a record for a James Harnett around that time likely he was baptized before records are available. I did not find a marriage record and likely the marriage occurred in a parish different than Enniskeane.

The free site www.irishgenealogy.ie showed four baptismal records for their children.

    Mary December 21 1831

    John March 7 1834

    Ellen April 21 1836

    James Janiuary 18 1841
