Two Terrence O'Briens Married to Smythe sisters and settled in central New York State. Hecla, Kirkland and Clinton New York. Terrence number one married Mary Smythe. He eventually moved to the Midwest and ran a Farm in Wisconsin. I descend from Terrence 2 and Jane Smythe O'Brien. They remained in Clinton, NY. I have never made a familial connection with the 2 Terrence's the way I have with the Smythe sisters.

  • Joe:

You don't indicate whether the two Terence O'Briens were born in Ireland. If they were born in Ireland, do you have approximate years of birth? Parental information? Did the marriages occur in Ireland?

  •       Yes, both Terrence's were born in Ireland and married there as well. Terrence 1 was born in 1805  Moynalty, County Meath. He married Mary Catherine Smythe ( Smith). He was a janitor at Hamilton College and a Farmer. My direct line was Terrence 2. He married Jane Smythe in Ireland and settled in Clinton, NY as well. They had many children also. I can't recall if any were born in Ireland off hand? Anyway, they later moved to nearby Utica, NY, but are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Clinton, NY. The first Terrence moved to Wisconsin. I'm trying to connect or disprove a familial connection between these two Terrence O'Briens.  Or more information about the families in Meath.

I can't locate a Terence O'Brien Jane Smyth marriage anywhere in Ireland and no baptismal records for children of that couple.

  • Ok Roger, thank you. They must have married and had all their children in New York State.
