Dear Elwyn
A few years ago you helped me research my Graham relatives in Galbally, Dromore Tyrone and we met in Belfast to discuss the family history. My ancestors were James Graham (1803-1883) and Ann McGuigan (1810-1884). James father, William and the rest of the family were in New Park.I have recently been contacted by Michael Graham who lived in Stradbane for 30 years, now in Dublin. We are trying to place his ancestor Henry Graham in the family tree as he is clearly related.

Henry Graham was born 1881 to Bridget McLaughlin and a William Graham (they were unmarried). His sister was born 1879. The children were baptised in Castlederg (as McLouglin) (Henry was son of Bridget McLoughlin of Drumquin) and went to school at Aughnamoe Primary. William died 1883. They lived on land that overlooked the train line (Graham land). In the 1901 census, Bridget and Henry are with Mary and William McCanny (as borders) in Magheragart and in 1911 Henry is in 88 Main St Tyrone. From Michael's emails, it sounds as though Michael grandfather grew up in the house in Main St.

The McCanny family is related to the McGuigans.

Michael tells me Magheragart Rd meets Galbally Rd at a junction just south of Dromore town . A Henry Graham paid tithes in Mulnagoagh town land iin 1834.

Can you help unravel this mystery perhaps with reference to land rents/ leases/ transfers? The extended Graham family here iin Australia has tried but so far, no success.
Regards and thank you

  • Tania,

You say that William Graham died in 1883.  I can’t find any death in the Omagh/Castlederg area that fits. I tried a year either side just in case. Have you been able to find it?
