Not to be confused with neighbouring Ballyfeeny Kilglass.
Does anyone know why the population of BF declined from 103 in 1841 to just 8 in 1901. Apart from the famine exodus that is. Was there an ongoing problem with the land?
I am searching info on Patrick Feeny born c 1811. There is a Pat in BF till c 1860 (Griffiths) but then my Pat pops up in Carrowclogher on Griffiths also. Pat was married to Elizabeth/Elin Cline/Clyne, and a Hugh Cline is at BF from 1820s to 1860s. Hugh Cline and Pat Feeny do a lot of guaranteeing on each other's Irish Reproductive Loans.
Pat Feeny's daughter married James McDermott of neighbouring Pollymount, whose father Martin had land in BF on Griffiths.
Birth, death and marriage records are mostly missing.
My other question is how Pat Feeny moved from BF to Carrowclogher which is not nearby. Was there an incentive to go to Carrowclogher?
Thank you.

My first reaction is that the landlord wanted to move tenants off the land to use the land for grazing. Ballyfeeny was a small townland only 120 acres. The cancelled books post Griffiths would be a good source but as of now those records are only available in the Valuation Office in Dublin.
You mention not finding birth, marriage and death records. Here is the 1879 marriage record for James McDermott and Brigid Feeny (second record)

The Strokestown records go back to 1830. What records are you looking for?

Thanks Roger for info on the landlord.
Marriage - I had that. Just trying to establish genuine older siblings of Bridget Feeny . I did wonder if Pat Feeny had been married twice as his three older children with Eli Cline were quite a bit older than the children recorded on 1901 census, which are definitely related to me.
Then the Mc Dermotts are another puzzle... James' parents were Martin McDermott from Pollymount and Margaret McDermott (from where?) which makes it trickier when looking at sponsors etc and trying to verify the trail back.
I shall post some info on James and Bridget's daughter Tess tomorrow. She was my great grandmother and godmother and was active in Cumann na mBan.

Can you tell me the name of the mother of Martin, Anne and Kate shown in the 1901 census? Thanks!

Sorry Roger. Don't know how I missed that last msg from you. Martin, Anne and Kate Feeny's mother is not listed in the census. They are definitely my great grandmother's siblings. Nor can I find the death registration for their father Pat Feeny, post 1901.
Anyway my current query is why I can't seem to get on Griffiths for Ballyfeeny, Bumlin. I know that Ballyfeeny borders Pollymount and i can see my great great grandfather Martin McDermott and his brother/uncle Thomas on Pollymount Griffiths 1857. They are not listed on Ballyfeeny Kilglass Griffiths.
However the landed estate files (which won't open for me) state both Martin and Thomas McDermott in 1857 as "Ballyfeeny, Pollymount".
How can I see this small Bumlin section of Ballyfeeny?
A puzzle to me.
Hope all is well your end.
Thanks a million. FionnFionn

I went on the askaboutireland.ie site which has Griffiths Valuation data and they have the Ballyfeeny data in Bumlin civil parish and it shows nine names including Patrck Feeny. There is also a Martin McDermott listed who was leasing 8+ acres of land from Daniel H. Ferrall. Is this your Martin?

Hi Roger, Hurrah you found them. Yes these are my Patrick Feeny and Martin McDermott, both my great great grandfathers.
However, I've been on askaboutireland with no success for the small Ballyfeeny (Bumlin) townland. I've tried via Bumlin, via all the names including Daniel Ferrell... Its like this little strip is blocked to me.
Is there any way you could send me a direct link please and I'll try to access the info that way?
Thanks a million. Fionn

Hi Roger no I can't get in that way either. It just only comes up with the Kilglass Ballyfeeny no matter what combination of place or family names I put in. It's a mystery.
I can see the Ballyfeeny Bumlin list of names and townlands on the FáilteRomhat site and Ballyfeeny and Martin McDermott are there, but it doesn't tell me what plot number or how many acres. That way I could see if the Ballyfeeny plot borders Martin's Pollymount plot. Would you be able to tell me these please.
Imeanwhile I'm going to email askaboutoreland.ie and see if I've somehow blocked that entry.
Thanks again.

Fionn:
Patrick Feeny is 2b and has a house on a 23 acre plot he leases from Hugh Clyne (2a) who is leasing his plot from Daniel H. Ferrall.
Martin McDermott is plot 6 and his plot is land only and contains 8+ acres leased from Daniel H. Ferrall.

Thank you Roger. I've notified askaboutireland as there were others who couldn't access this record. Have a lovely day. Fionn
