Helllo:

I'm tracing my maternal grandmother's lineage. We have a Griffith's valuation record that Patrick Pendergast was a tenant on land owned by Patrick Lynch in 1847 in Burriscarra, (Newtown). He and his immediate family emigrated to the United States soon after. However, I would love to find out more about his relatives, other Pendergasts in the area, as well as more about his father, Renfred Pendergast.

I had planned to travel to County Mayo this summer but will have to postpone till Spring/Summer 2022 but would love any leads or places I should follow up with.

Thanks so much!

RC church records for Burriscarra parish start in September 1839. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1048

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located the following Prendergast/Pendergast baptismal records in Burriscarra RC parish with father Patrick. The last record was the only one showing a townland of Newtown so I'm confident that Edward is a child of your Patrick. Normally the maiden name of the mother was shown on a baptismal record but I think that the priest showed her married name. Likely the 1842 record is also for your family. The two 1840 records are probably for other families in the parish.

Bridget Prendergast March26 1840 father Patrick Prendergast mother Anne Riley

Catherine Prendergast November 29 1840 father Patrick Prendergast mother Sabina Power

Patrick Prendergast  May 25 1842 father Patrick Prendergast mother Anne Cusack

Edward Prendergast August 19 1846 father Patrick Prendergast mother Anne Prendergast  Newtown

I did not find a marriage record.

I did not locate any records in the Tithe listings from the 1820s.

I did not see any records for Renfred.

Let me know if you have any questions.
