Hello Louise
My name is Fiona Bruce nee MORTLAND and I am the Great Grand daughter of Alexander MORTLAND who immigrated to NZ on the Tintern Abbey on 03 May 1875.
I have recently been reseaching my Fathers heritage, he is 80 years old and has always wanted to know where Alexander came from. My father is the son of David MORTLAND who was one of eight children that Alex and Sarah had in Canterbury New Zealand.
I found this post you made several years ago and to say my father was excited was a understatement, did you find out where John MORTLAND or Eliza Mary ORR came from? We would dearly love to know.
I do hope this message finds you fit and well.
regards Fiona
Bruce

Mortland is not a common name in Ireland. There aren’t many in the statutory records. The few that there are, are mostly in Co. Tyrone or nearby in Donegal.
Here’s a John Mortland death in 1881. (Don’t know if it’s your family):
Here’s a John Mortland marrying in 1845 in Castlederg. He was a widower.
