I am looking for sources or suggestions to find more information.
Based upon the book "Washington County Maryland Cemetery Records" it states -
Edward Hughes b. in Carrigeen, Longford Co. Ireland 15 May 1812 d. 13 Mar 1875
I also know from the 1840 Washington County, Maryland census his daughter is born abt 1831.
The Griffith Valuation is done in 1854, No Hughes' appear in the Tithe Applotment Books for Carrigeen
Church records do not start until 1855 according the multiple sources

Ken:
I think from a record standpoint, you will not find any other sources.
I did find a death record in 1873 for a Patrick Hughes who was 72 at death according to the informant Margaret Hughes. Patrick was from Carrigeen and likely listed in the Griffiths (see nest paragraph)

I note that the Griffiths for Rathreagh civil parish shows a James Hughes and a Patrick Hughes in Carrigeen townland. Very likely they were related to Edward possibly brothers or cousins unlikely a father. (See death record).
Have you considered DNA testing? You may get matches with others who have Hughes connections and possibly more info on your line.
