I've placed messages on the Carey/Sullivan families before but have recently found that the Sheehan family are linked to them also.
My g-grandmother, Ellen Sullivan (Jnr) was one of four children to Ellen Carey (Snr) and Thomas Sullivan. Ellen (Snr) was daughter of Mary Sheehan and Michael Carey. She died between 1855-1864 in the Kildorrery/Rockmill area. After her death Thomas Sullivan and Ellen (Jnr) (born 1853) moved to London to join Thomas & Ellen (Snr)'s older children - William, Mary & John. I would very much like to know when Ellen (Snr) died and where but have had no luck in the local parish registers so am hoping someone may have information of help!
Thanks in advance,
Lesley

Lesley:
Civil registration of deaths started in 1864. Prior to 1864, we only have records from those churches who kept records on deaths and as you found out, Kildorrery RC parish did not keep death records.
Kildorrery civil parish is within the Mitchelstown registration district. I checked the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and although there were 47 Ellen Sullivan registered deaths in Ireland in 1864, none were in the Mitcelstown registration district.

Thank you very much for checking, Roger, much appreciated. Looks like I've come to the end of that search! Maybe some Sheehan's will emerge one day.

Hi Lesley,
Subscription site - www.rootsireland.ie - has a record of Ellen Sullivan of Rockmills being baptised in Kildorrey RC Church on April 25th 1854. Other names: Ellen, June 7th 1841, Bridget, February 11th 1844, Thomas, June 22nd 1845.
Parents: Thomas Sullivan and Ellen Carey. Baptismal sponsors for Ellen born in 1854 are Daniel Howard and Mary Jones.
Having regard to the fact that there may have been an earlier death in the family, she may have been buried in either the Sullivan or Sheehan plot.
I attach a copy of the marriage record of Thomas Sullivan and Ellen Carey - No. 40, which may alert somebody in the Kildorrery area.
Best Wishes,
McCoy

Hi Lesley,
You might also look through the Historic Graves database. There are 4 graveyards around Kildorrery that have been digitised. Obviously only legible stones were included so the data isnt exhausive, but maybe a name or two will jump out at you!
https://historicgraves.com/graveyards-map - thats the link to the map of graveyards recorded around Ireland. There are 9 in the immediate vicinity of Kildorrery and Mitchelstown so hopefully something crops up!
Good luck

Many thanks, Mc Coy and David Whyte, for your information. I've just been checking out the graveyards and have found Carey & Sheehan burials but nothing to positively link with my family although I'm sure there is a link somewhere - just nothing that I can prove at this stage. The only Sullivan I found is not "mine" but I keep on hoping.
The information on Ellen's baptism and her parents marriage is invaluable.
Again, my sincere appreciation of your input and hopefully something will eventually turn up!
Best wishes
Lesley
