Can you let us know the name of your gr gr grandfather and his wife and children. Ages would also help.

  • John Andrew Sullivan/O`Sullivan,( my gr gr grandfather) married Katherine Mary "Kate" Dwyer (?) 20 Mar 1871-Allihies Parish, Ballydonegan, Cork Ireland. There was a half-brother to John born 1848, also in Ireland. There were 7 children born in Ireland before coming to the US in 1883.

    Those born in Ireland: 1872-Eugene

    7 Dec 1873-15 June 1878-Andrew

    29 Oct 1875-Mary Agnes "Mamie"

    22 Mar 1880-Mary Ellen "Nellie"

    1 Feb 1882-1882-Maurice Patrick

    9 Jul 1883-1956-John Edward "Jack"

There were 2 born in Butte Montana once they reached the states.

    10 Sept 1886-1964-Kathryn Ellen "Kate"

    11 Oct 1888-1974-Michael Henry-My great grandfather.

After living and working in Butte for some time, there was a move to the Jocko Valley, Flathead county, Montana. John put in a census that he was a farmer. Not sure what he did in Ireland before they came to the US.

One child born in Jocko Valley, Flathead.

    8 May 1891-Sarah Jane "Sadie"

My goal here is to find more info on their life in Ireland.

The free site www.irishgenealogy.ie has RC church records for Allihies which is part of the Diocese of Kerry. So even though the parish is located in Co. Cork, you have to search under Co. Kerry for the Allihies records.

I tried to find a copy of the civil marriage record from 1871. I wanted to see if Catherine was a minor when married and also find the names of their fathers which is on a civil marriage record. The only Catherine Dwyer baptismal record in Allihies was an October 27 1854 record with parents Patrick Dwyer and Mary Hanly.

There are far too many John Sullivan/O'Sullivan baptismal records in Allihies parish to know for sure which record is correct.
