Hello: I'm interested to hear from anyone who has connections with Letteragh, in Kilmaley, and anyone with Kays in their family, from this parish. My 2 x great grandfather James Kays was born in Letteragh circa 1811, the son of Thomas Kays, farmer. James married first Bridget Neylon, and their sons were Patrick Kays/Case b 1840, John, 1842, and James, 1845. James Kays left Letteragh, or was evicted, during the Famine period, c 1848, and moved to Houghton le Spring, Co Durham, England. He married Mary Durkin and had several children there. His son Patrick Case emigrated from England to Wisconsin, USA. I believe he had two sisters, Ellen Kays who married Peter Cullinan, and had children including Roger Cullinan, and Anne Kays who married Thomas Neylon, and had several children including Flann Neylon born 1845. Other Neylon siblings may have gone to Victoria, Australia. I can find no trace of the Cullinans.

  • Hello Theresa,

I found the 1831 baptism transcription as well as a copy of the original 1831 baptism record for "Rodger" Cullinan, son of Peter Cullinan and Ellen Keys. If you do not have this baptism record, I can send it to you if you request it.

  • Sorry, Dave, only just noticed this. Many thanks - I do have this record - but I would love to know what happened to this family, as I have never been able to trace them after the baptisms of their children.
