Lizzie Griffiths

Hi I am looking for information regarding Lizzie Griffiths was she born in Ireland. If she was how do I go about obtaining a birth certificate for her

Good Morning,

I am researching family history for a friend, His great grandmother was Elizabeth Griffiths ( Lizzie) she died in a place called Law, Carluke, Scotland in 1919, aged 49yrs. She married James MacAulay in Manchester in August 1892. They had a son,  he was named James Richard Galway MacAulay

On her death certificate her parents were both deceased Peter Griffiths (farm labourer) and Rebecca Griffiths.

I am hoping that my friends Grandfather with the middle name "Galway" great grandmother or GG Grandfather came from Galway.

The family looks to have been living in Co. Cavan. Here’s Peter’s death in Tullyroane, Cavan in 1898. The informant was son in law James MacAulay of Killoughter.

I think that after Peter’s death Rebecca moved to Scotland to be with her daughter and son in law. She died in Law on 11.11.1901 aged 66. Lizzie was the informant. Rebecca’s parents names are not on her death certificate (the section has a blank line drawn through it), indicating Lizzie didn’t know who they were. So possibly Rebecca was an orphan or adopted. Her origins may be hard to trace.

Macaulay family are in the 1901 Scottish census Carluke district, 629/4/43. Parents plus 3 children (William, Richard & James). Rebecca doesn’t appear to have been there though.

• Hi George, A transcription on Roots Ireland shows a Peter Griffith 27 of Derryheen and Rebecca Daly 34, a widow, of Drumcalpin, married in Anna, Cavan on 18-May-1857. They married in the Church of Ireland. Rebecca's father was Richard Galway; thus, her maiden name was Galway. Peter's father was Lewis. I hope this is helpful.
