I am looking for information on the family of James Brady (born circa 1828) who, with his wife Julia McGinn (McGann) emmigrated from Ireland to Australia on the 'Morniong Light' out of Liverpool in 1859.  I think James' parents were Charles Brady (26 Jan 1800- ????)  and Mary Fagan who married in 1826. It is possible that Charles' father was also named Charles and his mother was Catherine Cuminsky.   I know nothing of his siblings or whether there are still relatives in Oldcastle.  Any information would be most welcome.

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not locate the baptismal record for James or any possible siblings.  I did find a February 14 1858 marriage record for James Brady and Judith McGuinn in the Mountnugent RC parish which I believe is in Co. Westmeath but covers area in Co. Meath and Co. Cavan. Oldcastle parish would be just to the east of Mountnugent.

The RC church records for Mountnugent start in 1832 which is after when James was born. Possibly the Bradys were from this parish which would explain not finding any baptismal records.

There is a August 31 1841 baptismal record for Judith Maginn in Mountnugent. Parents Michael Maginn and Anne Martin. This record may not be the correct record since Judith would have been 16 at marriage.

Possibly when James and Judith came to Australia they used Oldcastle as their "home place" since it was the nearest big town.

  • Thank you Roger.

I will start again oin my search and see where it takes me.  I had a year of birth of 1842 for my Julia McGinn so all may not be lost.

    Regards
