Hi,I am trying to establish if there is a website that records passenger names on ships that sailed from either Ireland or England to New Zealand. There is good information on websites that recorded arrivals into New Zealand but as yet I haven't found anywhere that departing passengers might have been recorded as they left.Any help would be most appreciated.

  • There was no requirement to record passengers names when folk left Ireland or Britain.  The authorities had no need for that information. The only records that exist are for arrival in New Zealand and elsewhere, and then mainly for intercontinental journeys.

I don't think there were many sailings from Ireland directly to New Zealand. The vast majority of passengers from Ireland appear to have joined ships sailing from England, usually from ports like Tilbury, Southampton or Plymouth.  There are no passenger arrival records for the short journey from Ireland to England (which in any case was a domestic voyage in those days).
