Hi

I am researching an ancestor who lived in the Drumcollogher area and may also have lived in the Newcastle West / Kilmeedy areas. He is reported to have been born in 1892 , however this could vary by a few years. His name is James Roche who married Mary Sheehy from Rockchapel Shanagolden in 1923 at Ardagh Church.

They had eight  children Patrck Roche , William Roche 1926-1999 ( London)  Eileen Roche (Duggan London) ,jIim Roche1940 Kathleen Roche , Bridie Roche,  May Roche, Michael Roche

While the family has many records for the Sheehy side  it lacks information about James and his siblings and parents. Any information that may turn up would be graatefully appreciated.

From the 1923 civil marriage record, we know that the father of James Roche was Michael.

I searched the 1901 census and there were 38 James Roche records in Co. Limerick. The best lead I could locate was this 16 year old James in the Dromcolligher area. He was a farm servant.

The only James Roche civil birth record with father Michael in the Newcastle registration district was this 1887 record. The family lived in Knocknasna townland in Abbeyfeale civil parish

Going back to the 1901 census, Michael Roche was still in Knocknasna and was a widower and his daughter Catherine was living with him. He was listed as a farm labourer.

I'm not positive that the James Roche I located in Dromcolligher is the same James born in 1887. My speculation is that possibly James fudged his age to get employment.

Let me know what questions you might have. Very likely the 1887 is correct but possibly the 1901 census record for James is less likely.
