Hello!  In the 1821 census there is a family cited as living in the townland of Carrickalusk, Parish of Lurgan, Barony of Castlerahan, County Cavan.  I cannot find any reference to this area when I look at various maps or when I try to "google" the name Carrickalusk.  In later years, there is a family with the same last name listed as living in Cranadillon.  Are these actually the same place?

I appreciate any insight anyone may have!!! Thank you!

  • This link refers to Crannadillon as “Carrigaluska” in 1836. (Click on “view text records”).  It looks as though it was an alternative name for Crannadillon. So it’s likely you have found the correct place and family.

Google isn’t always an ideal tool for searching for information about townlands in Ireland. The spelling variants and the fact that most have a fairly small population often mean you don’t get any relevant matches.

Crannadillon is 280 acres. In the 1901 census there were 15 houses and a population of 73.
