Thanks for your very kind comments about the IRO site.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and found six baptismal records for children of James Fitzgerald and Catherine McMahon, however, I did not find a record for Edward.

The children located were Catherine 1845 Bridget 1847 Maria 1853 Anna 1855 Margaret 1858 James 1862.

The only Edward Fitzgerald baptismal record I could locate in Shanagolden was an Edmond Fitzgerald February 4 1846 with parents Edmond Fitzgerald and Margaret Rawley. Interestingly, the sponsors for this Edward were James Fitzgerald and Catherine Fitzgerald. Could these two be James Fitzgerald and Catherine McMahon?

Do you have a record for your Edward that shows James Fitzgerald and Catherine McMahon as his parents?

Is it possible that Edward or Edmond was a first cousin to Catherine Bridget and James?

Based on the years of birth likely Catherine, Bridget and Edward/Edmond came at the same time and James being born much later probably emigrated ten years or so later.

The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Shanagolden civil parish shows a James Fitzgerald in Ballycormick townland. Possibly this is your James Fitzgerald.

I have a copy of Edwards death certificate and it states James Fitzgerald and Catherine McMahon as parents could he be adopted as theirs
