Bonner/McConnell/McConalogue

Hello again Mary!

Bonner/Boner/Bonar was a fairly common surname in Co. Donegal with over 200 households listed in the Griffiths Valuation. Boner was the most common of the three surnames. McConnell was less common but almost 80 households in the Griffiths. McConologue/McConnologue  was a more rare surname in the county.

Boner and its variants were found in many parishes but by far Templecrone parish in the west/northwest part of the county had the most Boner records. McConnell households were also in a number of parishes with no parish having considerably more McConnell households than other parishes.

I did search on the subscription site Roots Ireland but could not find a baptismal record for Mary Bonner around 1847. Almost all of the Donegal RC parishes do not have records pre-1850.

Thank you once again, Roger!  You are a wealth of information. Amazes me how much you know. :)    It seems William Boner came over here in 1848 and Elizabeth and Mary came in 1851.  We thought Elizabeth was McConnell, but yesterday we found a baptism record listing her as McConnolloughe    Thought that was a complete mistake until we researched if there was such a surname  Quite surprised to learn that was a surname

Thanks for your very kind comments. I found a few more McConalogue records in the Griffiths. Below is a list of the Griffiths records I have located. You will note that many of the McConaloge records are in Culdaff parish which is way up north within the Inishowen Peninsula. Culdaff RC parish is the only Donegal parish that has baptismal records starting in 1838. Killygordon starts in 1840. All other RC parishes start 1846 or later. I think you can eliminate Culdaff as the parish since Mary Boner's baptismal record should have come up on a search.
