Looking for info on his parents/ ancestors.

Patrick married Catherine Norton in 1893 at Tallaght; they had 2 children before he died in Union workhouse in 1897. These details are known - one being my late maternal granny.

I have hit a brick wall as to Patrick's ancestors so any assistance will be welcome. I have assumed that his family were from Tipperary but can find no trace of him there. There was a Patt Stoney b.1839 in Moneygall but I can find no info or linkage.

Thanks

Leigh

From the civil marriage record, we know that the father of Patrick Stoney was also Patrick.

I searched the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and located an 1863 baptismal record (no specific date listed) for a Patrick Joseph Stoney with father Patt Stoney and mother named Ann (no maiden name provided). The RC parish was Saggart and the family lived in Kingswood. Not sure if this is your ancestor. Here is the link to the parish register page. Patrick Joseph is at the bottom of the page  https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633463#page/6/mode/1up   very hard to tell the date.

  • Hi Roger.

Thanks for speedy response. That's great as ties up with my thinking.

He is definitely Patrick Joseph christened 1863 in Saggart Dublin, with as I currently have him a father Patt Stoney (b.1839 Moneygall) and mother Ann "Annie (b. 1836 Galway) Oldbury [I think].

If I am correct Patt's parents are John Stoney (b. circa 1806 but don't know where) married Nov 1828 in Moneygall to Ann Trully (b. Cork; d.1852 Tipperary)

But, that's as far back as I go. I have a hunch that John Stoney (c.1806) may be from the Tipperary clan but can't find any records to link him.

    Leigh.

  • p.s. Just found record that indicates John Stoney (1806 - 1882) was from Roscrea, Tipperary so I might be on right track.

  • Anyone know parents/ immediate ancestry of a John Stoney (c.1806 unknown - 1882 Roscrea). He married Anne Scully 1828 in Moneygall. According to Griffith's he appears to have lived in Boherboy, Saggart through 1830/40s before moving (back?) to Tipperary in 1852 (after death of wife Anne in 1852).

    All thoughts and info welcome.

    Thanks
