Hello! I’m looking for details about the birth date, siblings and parents of my daughter’s great great grandfather Cornelius Kelleher. At this point, I believe I will need to find a person in Ireland to point me to the right information.
This is his life timeline (and info sources)…
- Born March 1846 in Ireland (1900 US Census)
- From County Cork, parish unknown (family story)
- Emigrated to USA in 1869 (1900 US Census)
- Worked as a silver miner in Nevada (family story)
- Arrived Philadelphia, sailed around horn to California (family story)
- Married Elizabeth McCarthy 27 Nov 1873 in Virginia City, Nevada (Church Marriage record)
- Naturalized American 17 Oct 1874 in Storey County, Nevada (California Great Register 9 Aug 1882 Bodie)
- At least two children –
- Catherine “Kittie” 1874 (1910 US Census for Kittie Hayes),
- John “Jack” 1882 (1900 US Census)
- Son Jack born 27 Mar 1882 in Bodie, California (1966 SSA Death Record, 1908 Marriage License)
- Died 18 Dec 1901 in Virginia City, Nevada (Obituary in Virginia Chronicle; Death Certificate)
Searching on Ancestry for any Ireland record, there are four Cornelius Kelleher baptisms in Cork in 1846, nine for the period 1845-47; there are no others on FamilySearch. The closest to March 1846 is one in Shandrum on 11 Feb 1846.
If you recognize that any of the above matches a Cornelius Kelleher you know about, please let me know. Thank you.
Robert

Robert:
I assume the death record was silent on parents names. I looked at the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and the subscription site Roots Ireland for Cornelius Kelliher baptismal records in Co. Cork. I did not find as many as you located.
Based on the assumption that Jack was the oldest son, I looked for baptismal records which showed a father John. The only record that came up was a December 1 1843 baptismal record in Ballyvourney RC church. Father was John Kelliher and mother was Mary Duggan. I share this record with you as a possible lead.
Have you considered DNA testing?

Hello Roger -
Thank you for responding to my Cornelius Kelleher post, and for the legwork you did. Yes, John was the oldest son, and I will pursue the lead you suggested. We have Kelleher DNA posted on both Ancestry and GEDmatch, but no leads so far. I'll post any successes here!
- Regards, Robert
