Would anyone know more about ruins in Renahingen known as Reanahoun, Mullaghareirk area, near to the the boarder Cork-Limerick? Barony of Dunhallow, County Cork.
A few yeras ago we were taken by an Historian from Bradford, to see the ruins of a farm that has an information board/ plaque in front: These ruins are of Bastible/Bastable farm. No buildings are standing but about 1 mile down this road are also the ruins of Langford house. Here there are still buildings.
I believe that the last tenants of the farm were a family Mockler, Christopher, before this area was sold to State Forestery. They moved to Broadford/Bruree. I wrote to them but the letter was returned and phone calls not answered.
I have reason - will of Daniel Charles Bastable (mid 1800's) -to believe that this farm may have been the birthplace of my grandfather - Henry Gerald Bastable b. 1891- and siblings. 3 of 4 sisters according to the Census 1901, 1911 were born at Gurteenard, Kanturk. The rest at Heathview, Broadford, Charleville. Birth and Baptismal Registers of Parish of Castlemagner.
But, was this Bastible/Bastable farm, now in ruins, in the state forestry area of Reanahoun called Heathview around 1850's +
Daniel Charles Bastable, of Gurteenard House, Kanturk was a lawyer in Kanturk/Dublin was married to a Langford (Dorothee ?) They had 4 children. Margaretta Bastable; Charles, John L. and I think a Dorothee L (L for Langford?)
In his will he leaves/bequeaths his rights of his lands of Gurteenard to daughter Margaretta Bastable and the lands of Reanahoun to his son Charles. Son John L. Bastable to also be executor of his will.
I am trying to find the puzzle link.
Was this son Charles the father of my Grandfather, Henry Gerald Bastable (my g grandfather, married to Josephine Marion / Marion Josephine Burke, born in Wexford - Census 1901 or born in Dublin - gravestone in South Africa.
Was this farm the Heathview that is written in the Baptismal records of Castlemagner.
One more point. My grandfather's next eldest brother's birth was registered in Newcastle, county of Limerick. Dec. 1889.
George Joseph: f. Charles of Renahoun, Farmer/ m. Marion Bastable (Burke)
This also lets me believe that these ruins in Reanahoun are the farm as they are so close to the boarder and I was told that a Dr may have come from Co. Limerick.
I have not yet found my grandfathers birth certificate, and he may not have been registered. His baptism was.
I would be thankfull for any extra news or thoughts.
