Hello
I have family heritage from County Galway, Ireland. My dad was born in Galway and he settled in England to work and raise a family.
His name was Edward Joyce, born in 1930. I would like to know if there are some family archive records in Galway which could help me find out if there are any Joyce family members living in Galway, Ireland.
Thanks for your help.

Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

The surname - Joyce - is a very common name in County Galway. What were  the names of his parents and the likely place of residence.

Civil records are held at 25, Newcastle Road, Galway City. Telephone: 35391546277. - They are from January 1st 1864, but in many cases people did not report Births, so you may be depending on the local parish for a baptismal record.

    Best Wishes,

  • Hello

I believe that his parents names were James and Bridget, both being from Oranmore, Galway as far as I know.
They were born on or around 1900 but I'm not sure of the actual dates.

    Hope the above is helpful.

    Thanks for your consideration

    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

I have checked subscription site  www.rootsireland.ie  and www.irishgenealogy.ie  - Free Site, but did not find a record for Edward, Edmond or Redmond born in Galway 1930 to 1940 with a father named James Joyce. No marriage record found for a "James Joyce" - 1925 - 1935 with a wife named "Bridget".

There are two "James Joyce" in 1909 and I910. One in Galway city suburb and the other in Turloughmore between Galway city and Tuam.

Birth mothers: Mary Burke and Mary Ellen Grealish.

Do you have a Social Security Number for Edward Joyce?

    Best Wishes,

  • Hi Patrick,

Attached please see copy of a birth of an Edward Joyce in Galway city in the period April-June 1930.

    His mother's surname is Corcoran.

If you contact the Registrar in Galway you will be able to get the full detail. Those records are computerised.

This record is just a possibility!

  • Hi Patrick

    This is a link to James Joyce / Catherine Corcoran marriage in Galway City in 1922. More than likely matches with the previous Birth record link provided by McCoy. https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…;
