Hello Everyone
I am searching for information regarding my 4th Great Grandmother, Elizabeth McNamara who was born in Nenagh, Tipperary, circa 1783. I know that Church records didn't really commence till 1793 and according to research there were five families in Nenagh with babies which range from the year 1792 till 1797. Elizabeth named her first born son John and there was only one father of these 5 families named John, which is not much to go on, if anything at all.
Elizabeth was convicted of a crime in Clonmel (Clonmelle) in September 1801 and was transported from Ireland as a convict sentenced to serve 7 years in Australia. The Ship was the Atlas which left form Cork in November 1801 and arrived in Australia in July 1802.
Any information regarding her or the McNamara/ Macnamara family of that time would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Rufus

Hi Rufus,
I have checked subscription sites - www.rootsireland.ie and www.findmypast.ie, with negative results in relation to baptism for an Elizabeth McNamara in Nenagh. Have you checked Elizabeth's marriage and death records for the names of her parents?
Roots Ireland have a record of seven marriages for a "John McNamara" in the years 1775 to 1785. 4 are in Limerick, 2 in Kerry and 1 in Kilkenny.
You have to take account of the fact that many Irish were nomadic in that period.
I attach some downloads. You probably have them already!
Regards,
McCoy

Hi McCoy
I didn't have the last file and to be honest these are better quality than the ones I do have, so thank you for your input, much appreciated.
The North Tipperary Genealogy Centre have been extremely helpful. They found 6 families of McNamara who were having children in Nenagh, between 1792 and 1797, which is a few years after Elizabeth was born, but there were no records prior to that time as I said previously, only one of these fathers was named John.
We did place an open letter in the Nenagh Guardian to see if anyone remembers Elizabeth, but no luck as yet. I did find a John McNamara born in Nenagh, Tipperary about 1757 which would make him the right age and he was in the military, 12th or East Suffolk Regiment of foot, discharged 24th September 1808.
But as yet we have no ties to Elizabeth, his discharge papers are supposed to list his family but I have been unable to get a copy of this document as yet.
Again a huge thankyou for your assistance it is appreciated.
Cheers Rufus
