MODEL SCHOOL CLONMEL IRELANDHi all I am new to this website.  I am trying to find the parents of Jane LLOYD born c. 1829 Longford House, Templemore, County Tipperary who was the wife of my gg grandfather William ANDERSON.  Jane was a school teacher and migrated to NSW Australia in 1854 (Ship- Patrician).  On her application to Teach in NSW she states her former training schools were Model School, Clonmel and another (which I cannot read).   On her Death record her father is given as Thomas Prince LLOYD and mother Margaret Agusta CARDON.  I cannot find birth records for Jane.  In her Will there is mention of a brother William Lloyd.  Jane died in Picton, NSW on 2 December 1887.  Her brother died prior to 1887.

I have found reference to Thomas Prince Lloyd owning land at Gorteen and also Robert Lloyd (being held from Thomas Prince Lloyd) with respect to property called Longford House in the 1840's.

I have been unable to fiind marriage of Thomas Prince Lloyd to Margaret or birth of any of their children.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I live in Lake Macquarie a small town in  New South Wales,  Australia.  thank you.  Marilyn Dietiker

  • Hi Marilyn,

Please see attached in relation to the Model School in Clonmel. The Principal there may have a record of her.

The school apparently dates from 1849.

    Marilyn,

Further to previous post, I have checked Subscriptions sites - www.rootsireland.ie and www.findmypast.ie  with negative results for a baptism of a Jane Lloyd with parents Thomas Prince Lloyd and Margaret Cardon - 1820 - 1840.

Tipperary Studies - Email:  studies@tipperaryco.co.ie  who are based in Thurles may be of assistance.

Apparently Robert Lloyd was a brother of Thomas Prince Lloyd - Source: Criminal Trial in 1848 : Irish Examiner dated August 11th 1848.

Limerick Chronicle newspaper recorded a number of deaths which are published by Limerick Studies. The name "Lloyd" appears in pages 31 to 38.

  • Marilyn,

Attached copy of a will made by Hester Matilda Lloyd in 1872, widow of Thomas Prince Lloyd of Longford, Co. Tipperary.

There is no family - son/daughter - shown as a beneficiary.

  • Marilyn,

Attached records of the Lloyd Estate - Gurteen. See observations. They give an account of the family members and how Hester Millet Lloyd came into possession.

The surname "Millet" was in Ireland from the 14th century and is recorded in West County Limerick in 1820's..

No marriage for Hester Matilda Millet and Thomas Prince Lloyd found. Deed made in 1837.

It would appear that Jane Lloyd's mother had died?

    Regards,
