Hi Everyone,
This is one that is wrecking my head. My uncle John O'Brien (born 20/10/1941) was knocked down by a horse and cart in the mid 1940's somewhere around the five lamps area. He was massively disfigured and was never quite the same. Apparently he went to Temple St but didn't receive appropriate care required. Temple St have no record of him and I can't locate any info in the newspapers. His siblings all have dementia and there is nobody else to ask. Does anyone have any suggestions either where to look or what to do? John died in the UK in 1997 after many years of estrangement.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Christine

Hi Christine,
I looked at the death listed for John 1997, was his death in Hackney?
With a quick search I found a record says DOB as 13th June 1941.
I looked for the birth in Five Lamps area which is in Dublin North.
Was his Mothers maiden name Power?
If not, do you know his MMN?Margot

Hi Christine & Margot, if he received head injuries he may have been taken to the Richmond Hospital which was close, it is now closed and is part of the newer (!980s) Beaumont hospital, it is difficult to get medical records except to family but would imagine they were archived when the hospital closed.
The evening newspapers at the time were The Evening Press (now closed) The Evening Herald, part of the Independent Group and still on the go, and the Evening Mail, gone since the 1960s, Sunday papers were the Sunday Press (gone) and the Sunday Independent, moring papers were the Irish Press (closed) Irish Independent and Irish Times (this has an online archive to 1857 and you can subscribe for a day) the others were Irish Independent, may be on the Irish Newspaper Archive or the British version.
There is a Facebook page for Fairview (few of them) but one I think deals with old stuff, also one for the East Wall area, not too sure where the 5 Lamps falls but it has changed a lot and was bombed during WW II. This is the general area, https://www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2021/0528/1224451-north-strand-bombing-19…;
If you Google North Strand Bombings you will see more.

Me Again, you could get in contact with the library here, it has the local studies section for Dublin, the reason I mentioned the Richmond Hospital is that it is where head injuries went.
