McNaughton, McNaghten, McNatten, Naughton FREE Y-DNA testing

You may know that I have been an avid researcher of Irish McNaughton lines for the last decade (www.mcnaughton.website and click on the pdf). Last year the Genetics Department of the University of Strathclyde resurrected the Macnaughton Y-DNA Project

and over 20 Scottish lines of the 1780s and a dozen Irish lines have now tested and their Y-DNA Signature is known.

Any living male with the McN surname variation should have the Y-DNA signature of his earliest McN ancestor. Therefore if anyone is researching such a line and knows a living male who could test for it then all they should need to do is take the Y-DNA test and hopefully you'll know their original line back in Ireland before emigrating.

I am always keen for NEW Irish lines to join the University's Project and I will personally send any new Irish McN line of interest a completely FREE Y-111 Test kit from FTDNA

Anyone researching such lines should contact me on jon.lee63@googlemail.com and tell me about their earliest McN ancestor. I'll tell you what I know and will either tell you what the Y-DNA signature should be, or will offer you a free kit that will be pre-registered to the specific name of the tester you have chosen for your McN line.

I have listed below the Irish McN lines that we already have Y-DNA signatures for but first I'll mention lines we very much want testers for. They are McNaughtons of Co. Monaghan; McNaughtons and Naughtons from Shandrum, Co Cork; McNaghtens from Ballyreagh, Co. Antrim; McNaughtons from Ballycastle and Ballymoney, County Antrim and any other McNaughton, McNaghten or McNatten from Ireland not listed below.

There is nothing personal or private in one's Y-DNA - indeed we hope yours will be exactly the same as another person in the Project. All testers appear anonymously in the Project just as a "kit number" next to Earliest Known Ancestor.

This is a genuine offer with no catches. It may cost me a few thousand dollars but since when has genealogy been cheap!

McNaughton Randalstown, Co. Antriim

MacNaghten Benvarden, Co. Antrim

William Naghten b.c.1766 Cork who went to Canada and became McNaughton

McNaughton (one of the Monaghan lines)

McNaughton (another Northern Irish line of 1802)

McNaughton/McNaghten of Westmeath
