I have been reviewing the information I have collected on my great grandfather and great grandmother. I notice that I have found from some source or other that he was born in 1814 in Aghamore, Leitrim and she was born in 1841. I now realize this cannot be correct as he would have been considerably older than her. I cannot find the original source of this information nor can I find any other clues such as a marrage record.
Can anyone help with this please. Perhaps he had a son also called Michael. Thanks

The RC parish for Michael and Bridget was Glenade but records for that parish start in November 1867. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and found records for five children Patrick 1864 Mary 1867 Terence 1869 John1873 Anne 1876 Michael was likely born before 1864 when civil registration started.
I will respond later with more information.

Michael's death record shows age 72 in 1886 which is likely where you had determined 1814 year of birth.
1901 census. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Leitrim/Aghanlish/Aghamore/1480151/
1911 census. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Leitrim/Aghanlish/Aghamore/644538/
This may be the death record for Bridget although Aghamore is misspelled.

Thanks Roger. I could not find the source of the 1814 birth date. I thought maybe it should be 1841 like his wife. The death details look correct as his son Joseph who signed the certificate is my grandfather's name. This means he was 27 years older than Bridget and that they had six children. I am impressed. The 1901 and the 1911 census also match. I met my Uncle Terry & Aunt Annie somewhere in Leitrim called, "The Old Road", probably Aghamore, in the late 40s. The death record for Bridget also looks good.
This answers my doubts about the birth year of my Great Grandfather, so thanks again for your help and your speedy reply.

Roger,
Just spotted on the 1911 census that Bridget Connolly(McNulty) had eleven children and only six survived.
WOW! This was some Great Grandfather.

Gerard:
It is unfortunate the Glenade records start late in 1867 which prevents you from having records for the older children.

Roger,
I have found the birth records for five of Michael's children, but not for my grandfather, Joseph. His birth in Ballyshannon 1871 seems to have fallen into a black hole.

You can scan the parish register https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634859#page/2/mode/1up. to see if you can locate the baptismal record.

Tried that Roger. Spent some time scouring the 1871 records to no avail. As I said - a black hole. Thanks for your help with this. Gerard

Hi Gerard
Here is a link to records for the townland of Aghamore that are free online.
buildings-database/aghamore-townland
Here you will find an 1857 record for Michael Connolly at farm#1 (33 acres) in Griffith's Valuation. His farmhouse #1a was an old longhouse (rated at 10 shillings) situated along the roadside at the eastern boundary of the townland.
Conolly is the only family name in Aghamore that was not recorded back in the 1833 Tithe Applotment Records. So he may have come in after the famine (and therefore turn up on record elsewhere).
In 1833 (Tithe Applotment Records) there was a Connolly cluster just north of Aghamore at Muckrum (still strong in 1857 with farms #4-7 holding almost 70 acres combined). A Michael Connolly was recorded in Muckrum in 1833 but not in 1857.
The MacNulty family cluster was just east of Muckrum at Carrownoona in 1833.
Biddy McNulty may have been Michael's second wife.
Hope this helps!

HI Gerard
I think we corrisponded before, Bridget Mc Nulty was a sister of my ggranmother Ellen Mc Nulty Mc Gloin she was from Keeloges Glenade, I often heard my granmother RIP and my father (who is 91 and very much alive) talk very fondly of Anne Connolly. I think they were all very close friendships. Regarding the mcnultys in carnoona, I remember hearing a story that the Keelogues mcnultys had only daughters Im not sure if this was Bridgets and Ellens generation or their parents but the keelogues familyh wanted to keep the farm in the Mc nulty name so they made a match of one of their daughters to a mcnulty man from Carnoona I think he was peter mc nulty, I have found it difficult to figure because in a marraige record 2 mcnulty married and both fathers were called Peter mc nulty!! but all I can confirm we are related!!
Kind regards

Siobhan,
I have just read your 1st Novemebr comments. Today I got an email saying that a reply had been posted for my Connolly NcNulty message. When I checked there was todays date with no comment.. However, I did find yours. I read what you had to say and could not connect anything that meant anything to me. I was intreged by your last sentence, "I can confirm we are related"
Tell me more!
Regards,

Hi Siobhan,
I have just been re-reading this post, after all this time. I know, I should get a life. However, I was wondering if you have considered giving me your reasons for thinking we are connected through the Connolly's, McNultys and McGloins mentioned above. Certainly the names all feature in my family tree.
