Hello, I don’t know if this is the right page to help me but I am trying to trace any survivors who were admitted to the “Our Lady of Succour Industrial School in Newtown Forbes from 1932 onwards. My mother was sadly placed there at the age of 6 years old by her father on the grounds of destitution. My mother sadly passed away in 2006 and I have only in the last few years discovered some few details of her childhood and only just recently came across by chance a book “Annie’s Girl” written by one of the “orphans” sadly placed there at the age of 3. I wrote to the department of education shortly after my mother passed away and eventually received a pile of papers which documented some details of my mothers history at the school but mainly just one line entries in a register. I would be very grateful for any tips or pointers to assist me in gaining any further information
Thank you
Lesley

Hi Lesley, The births of these children are in bertween records that you can find. Some are up to 1920, then another 1958.
Thomas was the only one with Hogan as it was about 1925 when you can find the Mothers Maiden Name entered, try familysearch.org.
I cannot find other information on Thomas J as there are so many Thomas J's.
This is the link for the Library in Longford town. Email them and see if they have any books or information.
Library - Longford (longfordlibrary.ie)I have been in the Library a few times, searching records as far back as 1837.

Dear Margot
thanks so much for your info. I got as far as actually tracing Thomas' son Terry who contacted me through a median call "Irelands Calling" . It was a message board and I had left a message a little while after my Mum passed away. We met up and discovered that our parents were siblings and Terry told me that his father (Thomas) was very secretive about his childhood so he was unable to give any other information other than the fact that the other brother was killed in a car crash in the 1960's.
It is very sad knowing that Mum endured a childhood in a "notorious" Industrial school, and I am currently reading the book "Annies Girl" written by Maureen Coppinger and documents her time in the same "School" as Mum and I was rather hoping to come across maybe a reference to Mum in her book, but sadly as yet not. Unfortunately Maureen sadly passed away a few years ago so that line of information has ended.
