I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and there is another baptismal record for a Hugh Whyte baptized January 1 1843 father Richard Whyte and mother Hanah Haly in Daingean RC parish. I did not find the marriage record. Marriages usually occurred in the bride's parish and possibly Hanah/Honora Haly was from a nearby parish which does not have marriages back to 1843. For example, Killeaigh parish to the south of Daingean has marriages starting in 1859.

Richard White is listed in the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballycommon civil parish  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/offaly/ballycommon.php

Richard Whie died in 1880 see fourth record

Honorea White died 1879 under somewhat curious circumstances see 9th record

  • Hello Roger ,

    thanks for your help .

The hugh whyte baptism is very interesting.

One of the problems I have is the variation in spelling of names eg. whyte/white .

There is a belief in th efamily that the Richard Whyte who married Honora Haly was COI.

The Tithe applotment books mention a Joseph White living with him in Ballycommon.

I have come across a death record for Joseph which say he was buried in the quaker cemetery in EDenderry and was COI.

Will have to dig deeper .

    Brian.
