1911 Census - Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh

The 1911 census misspelled Crossmaglen and it shows up as Crossaglen. There are 19 townlands in Crossaglen DED but not the streets in the town. They must have been moved to another DED. If you know the names from the 1901 census, I would look for them in the 1911 census.

I don’t see any of the 3 streets in Crossmaglen that you mention in the 1911 census. There are odd pages missing from the censuses, and the sheets covering these streets may be amongst them.

Roger I've tried looking for the names of minimum 10 households that all appear in 1901 and nothing! 

Elwyn I was starting to think there was a mass exodus from an entire town! This has to be the reason... Thank you!

Missing Townlands/Streets

A number of townlands/streets do not appear in the online census for 1091 and 1911, mostly due to their never having been microfilmed, and thus never digitised. This is being remedied, and the missing material will be placed online as soon as possible. A list of the missing material will shortly appear on this page.

The records for some streets and townlands have never been in the custody of the National Archives, and these will be clealy indicated.

I was watching John Grenham's latest YouTube article titled Bits and Bobs and found out that the answer to the missing 1911 Crossmaglen town census records is available on John's web site https://www.johngrenham.com/browse/missing_1911.php and in fact the actual returns for Crossmaglen are missing.

Other areas that are missing records e.g. Co. Antrim have a more favorable situation: microfilmed but not online or available to be microfilmed.

Thanks Roger, seems to be a typical outcome of my search in this area unfortunatley. 

I was still hopeful they were out there but not microfilimed. 

Missing in 2000? Very suspicious!!

Ann,

I have the same problem as you.  Some of the streets/townlands in Crossmaglen did not make the 1911 census from the 1901 census.  Unfortunitly, Newtownhamilton Street is one of them.. My McArdle and Malone families lived next door to each other and neither made it in the 1911 censu.

I'm just gratefull for what records that I do find as the 1916 uprising ruined many church and civil records!!
