Hi I have so little but have hope enough to fill the sky :)

I have been searching for many years and I am presuming that I am not very good at this. :)

Michael Joseph states on all documents that I have is that James Sullivan and Honoria McEnnercy from Limerick were his parents but alas no trace that I can find.

I recently received his will and other court documents and in one document one of his daughters stated that he could claim British Citizenship which has thrown me completely as he was a Roman Catholic from Limerick up until this point.

Being an antipodean from Down Under I am not sure of the history of the UK at that time and so started searching Wales ( here were the closest for name matches that I could locate but not him) and England and still no luck. I am hoping above hope that  James and Honoria born circa 1825 in Limerick  may ring a bell with someone's research.

The name McEnnercy of course has led me down many paths as well.

Here's hoping and kind regards Anne

  • Annie:

Ireland was part of the British Empire thru the 19th century and up until 1921. So if Michael died pre-1922 then his daughter's statement was correct.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and could not find any records for your family with the names James Sullivan and Honoria McEnnercy. By the way the spelling of her surname was likely McEnerney or McInerney.

I did find a marriage record in Limerick city (St. Michael's) between a James O'Sullivan and a Bridget McInerney on August 26 1855 but no baptismal records for children.

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Thank you so much Roger that answers the question for me. :)

I found a James and a Bridget also.

I have had my DNA testing done on Ancestry but hardly any hits from Ireland and that surprised me as all four great grand parents are from Ireland.

Never mind though as never give up is what they say.

When I was in Ireland last I had the wonder of meeting some of my Caples relatives in County Waterford. Next time I am over I am going to concentrate on Limerick.

PS I also found some name matches for James and Hanoria but no Michael in Wales which led me on the path for a while but now I am sure thanks to your information that he had it right on his documents and I will concentrate fully in Limerick in the future.

Kindest regards and thank you so much for replying.
