Hello, I may have the wrong parish and please tell me if I do. My mother (Margaret Shryane) was born in Roosky in 1916. Her mother was Mary Durkin (also seen it spelled Durcan) and her father was John Shryane. My mother and most of her siblings emigrated to the US but I can find any relatives in Roscommon. Thsere's no record of when her parents died and no siblings of her parents. Of course, Shryane is spelled different ways too.
I have been to Limerick where my father was from but not to Roscommon. I plan to visit in mid-November so any hints would be welcome.

Anne:
Is it possible that Margaret's father was Thomas rather than John? I found a civil birth record for a Margaret Shryane in December 1916 in Roosky townland Castlemore civil parish. See next to last record at this link

Assuming this is the correct record, you are in the correct parish.
See third record for 1897 civil marriage record for Thomas and Mary. Fathers names are listed https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
1901 and 1911 census records.

See third record for death of Margaret's sister Mary Ellen in 1926 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
I did not find a death record for the mother.
Just so you know I live in the States. Have a great trip! Let me know if you have questions about the information. I will see if I can locate other records.

Hi Roger, thanks for the information. You're right about the names. My grandfather was Thomas -- his father was John. Knowing that my grandfather died in 1920 may explain why most of the children emigrated to America. I am puzzled though by the lack of information about my grandmother and not finding a record of her death. I know that my mother and my aunt went back to Ireland to visit her as late as 1950 or '51. It's possible she lived with another man without being married but a death record would still show up.
Thanks again, Anne

Anne:
It is possible that her death was not reported to the civil authorities. You may want to check with the office at the Cathedral in Ballaghaderreen to see if they might have a record of her death.
