Hello,
Looking for information on a Patrick Power or Patrick Powers who married Bridget Dawson. I know of one son, David, born Oct 28, 1831. There's another son named William but I don't know if he's older or younger than David. Both men immigrated to the US. David about 1849, William unknown. I do know that David was from Limerick but some research has indicated that the Dawson's were from the Galbally Aherlow area.
Thank you for your help,
Mary Jo
PS I will be posting this on the Tipperary site.

Mary Jo:
I searched on two subscription sites: Roots Ireland and FindMyPast.ie and did not find any baptismal records for children of Patrick Power(s) and Bridget Dawson. There is a large family in Galbally/Aherlow RC parish where the father was Patrick Power(s) but the mother was Mary Dawson. There were ten baptismal records from 1827-1849. The oldest child was William baptized in 1827 but there was no David that I could locate.
Have you considered DNA testing?

Thank you all. I really appreciate your help.
In answer to your question Roger, yes, I have done a DNA test, as has my dad. I've also had my dad take a Y-DNA test. I finally got a match that could be descended from the same set of ancestors. I live in the US, the match lives in Australia. We spell our last name Powers, the match spells it Power. On my ancestor's death certificate it lists Patrick Powers and Bridget Dawson as his parents. My match has records for his ancestor that lists Patrick Power and Mary or Ellen Dawson as the parents. The informant for my ancestor's death record could have been mistaken about the mother's name.
It looks like the record you found could be for my match's family. Was there a Patrick listed born about 1835? Can you give me the names and dates of Patrick and Mary's children?

Mary Jo:
I can give you the names and year of birth and there was a Patrick baptized in 1835.
William 1827 Michael 1830 Anastasia 1832 Patrick 1835 Richard 1837 Ellen 1839 Catherine 1841 Mary 1843 N.R. (no record?) 1845 Bridget 1849 Not sure what happened with the 1845 child. When I get a chance I will look at the parish register.

Mary Jo:
I looked at the register and the entire left-hand side of the margin for October 1845 baptisms was cutoff so the date of baptism and name of the child are not available for every baptism in October 1845 (and maybe other months). https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632716#page/91/mode/1up

"We spell our last name Powers, the match spells it Power. "
Hi Mary Jo,
Spellings in records vary a lot. One can find the same family's baptisms with different spellings of the last name. Census records might vary too in surname spellings. I have found a Stewart ancestor's last name spelled Stewart, Steward, Stuart, etc. And I've found Reilly/Riely/Riley/O'Reilly/O'Riley, etc., for the same family.
Hope this helps.Patricia
