I think that my ancestor may have been an orphan born around 1803 and went to the United States on the ship Commerce from Belfast to Philadelphia, PA  arriving on Juy 10, 1804.  The name is Thomas Stevenson.  I cannot find any information except that it states he was 2 years old when arriving but I don't see where the got that information from.  The name from a Marriage certificate and death record is Thomas Riley Stevenson.  I do not know if he was from Ireland or not, but this is the best lead that I can find.

  • Hi, thanks for confirming Sarah Rock.

    There are two records,
Thomas Riley Stevenson .....married Sarah Rock.....he was born in New Jersey, his father also born in New Jersey and his grandfather was born in England.
    another
Thomas Stevenson, born Ireland..........went to PA birth year as 1796 but was already married to Elizabeth Moore.  One of his children stated Donaghmore, County Tyrone as the place of birth.
I saved this in a word doc. as my membership ran out in Ancestry. So I cannot go back.
But if you look in Familysearch.org you should find the same information.
May be Ancestry the world wide membership for a a month and you will get you information.

  • Thank you so much I will look into that.  The Thomas who was born in NJ to the parents in NJ I was able to find a will of the mother and she had one child named in the will and it was not Thomas.  I will look into this new one.
