Hi all, I just deleted my post by accident, my name is John Ryan, my father's name was Leo Ryan. His parents were John Ryan, d.1950, Mary Ryan (Shannon) they lived at 12 Willie Nolan Road, Baldoyle, after moving from Howth. My father's brother Fran. sold the house at Willie Nolan Road to Sean Dunphys (Euro Vision fame) father. My father had 5 brothers and 6 sisters. 3 of the sisters became Nuns, they joined the Convent, which was situated at the bottom of Willie Nolan Road at that time. I have managed to track 2 of the Nuns to Australia and America but the 3rd sister I can find no trace of. Margaret Mary Josephine Ryan born 01/05/1901. She became Sister Martha, in Milltown. I have
contacted Irish Sisters of Charity and Irish Sisters of Mercy but had no response. If any one could tell me how to get information of her life and her final resting place I would be really grateful. I would also appreciate any info that's out there on my family.
Kind Regards.
John Ryan.

Thanks Roger, it's nice to know the site is being policed. It gives me (a newbie) confidence in posting on your site.
Whilst I am writing this post, I may as well ask. Has anybody out there got any information on the Ryan Family of Howth, then Baldoyle the parents were John Ryan born 1878 U.S.A & Mary Ryan (Shannon) born 1881 New Ross, Wexford. Both are buried in Kilbarrack Cemetery, Dublin. They had 12 children. My father Leo being one of them. They married 06th May 1900. I had an uncle Francis Joseph Ryan born 11th May 1904 but can't find his final resting place.
Kind Regards.
John Ryan..

John, Have you looked for the family in the 1901 and 1911 Irish census?
Do you have info on all 12 children?
Can you clarify what it is you'd like to find out?

Hi Patricia.
I contacted the Presentation Sisters and they did an intensive search for me but to no avail. I am certain Margaret Mary Josephine Ryan (Sister Martha) joined the congregation The Sisters of Charity, because that is the Congregation my other 2 Aunts joined. Sister Martha at Milltown was mention in her Mother's (Mary Ryan) obituary in 1940.
I have all the children listed but would to find the final resting places of Francis Joseph Ryan Born 11/05/1904 in Howth, Dublin and John James Ryan Born 22/01/1912 in Baldoyle, Dublin.
I am also trying to get info on my great grandfather. My grandfather married Mary Shannon on 06/05/1900 and his father a Carpenter is named on the marriage certificate and a witness to the marriage is also named John Ryan. My grandfather was born 1878 in New York, U.S.A. I am certain his father was born 1848 in Bridgetown, Limerick. Married Margaret Madigan 23/02/1873 and travelled to America but then at a later date travelled back to Ireland. I can not find info on travelling to and from U.S.A. I am trying to find if my grandfather had any siblings. This request is a big ask, but I am new to building family trees and hoping that the many questions I ask will be understood

John:
I located the 1873 civil marriage record and at that time John Ryan and Margaret Madigan both lived in Co. Clare in the civil parish of O'Briensbridge. See second record at this link Both Fahy More and Ardnataggle townlands are in O'Briensbridge parish.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
The RC parish could be either Killaloe or Doonass and Truagh. The records for Killaloe start in 1828 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0793 but the records for Doonass and Truagh do not start until 1851 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0771
I searched on the subscription site FindMyPast.ie and did not find a record around 1848 using Francis as John's father. The only record I located was September 9 1839 in Killaloe father Frank Ryan and mother Mary Keogh. If you don't believe that John was born in 1839 then my guess is that he was baptized in Doonass and Truagh prior to when records started (1851).

Hi Roger, thankyou for all that information. There is plenty for me to be going on with. I really appreciate your input and your time in providing the info. I feel sure I can link some of this info with my tree. I will let you know how it all fits in.
Thanks again

Hi Roger. Just checked through the info you gave me. It appears John Ryan & Margaret Madigan are my great grand parents, obviously Frank, being my great great grand father. searching through immigration records John & Margaret travelled to America on a ship named, Greece in 1874. This is where i get nervous, i have found a John Ryan who died in Manhattan state Hospital 16/01/1904 who resided at 3184, Broadway, New York City, New York, U.S.A. I feel reasonbly confident that he could be my great grandfather, but cant find a record of Margaret Ryan in U.S.A. but will keep trying.
Thankyou so much.
Regards
John.

Patricia:
I tried the link you gave me, they referred me to another Congregation, but sadly neither of them could find any trace. I am still at a loose end on how to trace a Nun. Thank you for your assistance it really is appreciated.

Hi All: I am trying a cheeky request. My grandparents and 2 of their children are buried in Kilbarrack Cemetery, Dublin. They are buried in section B, the grave number is 5324. My grandmother Mary Ryan was buried in 1940 and my grandfather John Ryan buried in 1950. I live In the UK and can not travel, I wondered if anyone who should happen to be visiting Kilbarrack Cemetery would consider taking a picture of the headstone and forward it to johnfrancisryan1954@gmail.com I would be ever so grateful if this request came to fruition.
Thankyou.
Kind Regards
