Hello. My maternal great grandparents both emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1900s from just outside Tisrara and the civil records and references in the US records seem to indicate they were likely baptized at a Church in Four Roads but I have been unable to find the church records. They were born in 1882 and 1886. Looking at the church there presently it looks somewhat modern and I have been unable to find any information on what Catholic church would have exist in the 1880's to narrow my search even further. Does anyone know if the church from that era perhaps burned down and records were lost? Any tips or historical information about that time period in Four Roads would be greatly appreciated.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has the baptismal records for Tisrara RC parish up to 1900. What arr the names you are looking for?

The small penal Four Roads Chapel (as it appears on this map in 1839) was replaced in 1843 by a cruciform church named Christ the King.
This Chapel of Christ the King served the Four Roads community until 1972 when it was demolished and replaced by the present RC church.

Thank you Roger, (Volunteer) and Margot! I went to rootsireland and was able to find birth records. I tried previously without success but this time did a ten year search using their mother's maiden name (Catherine Cormican) and not only found my great grandmother (records listed her as Brigid not Bridget as she was known in the States) but also all her siblings.
This leads to two other questions re: Brigid... 1) there were descrepancies on dates between the Church and Civil records for virtually everyone. I have been told the Church records are generally more accurate for date of birth and baptism. would you concur with that as a general principal? 2) the Parish/District of all the children were DYSART/TISRARA but there were many different descriptions under address, none of which I could find with Google searchs. I wonder if you could help me interpret precisely where Brigid was born... her church record lists Curracot. her civil record lists Clonloughlin. There siblings seems to have variations on the same often with Cloonloughlin.
Brigid married my great grandfather Michael Kelly here in America (in Dochester in Boston in 1910) but it looks like he was born very near to Brigid and I am assuming my have known her before they both arrived in Boston (1 year apart). From rootsireland Michael Kelly (son of Michael Kelly and Margaret Tumelty) was born in "Cloonyshade Tisrara" on 06 Feb 1882 in the according to the Civil Record and "Cloonshade" according to the church record. Would you be able to shed light on that location and would you assume given the time period and distance that they would likely known each other from Church or school or other community activities? (Note: Michael was 3 and 1/2 years older).
Thanks so much for your help. I am very grateful that you each took the time. My family and I are talking about making a trip to Ireland in the future to trace back our roots and it would be great to know what villages they came from. - Patrick

Hi,
Looking at Michael Kelly, born 6th February 1882, there are two.
One has Mother as Ellen Lennon. Number 425
The other has Mother as Margaret Tumelty. Number 360.
I thought it was a duplicate, but on the registration dates there are different.
Look at the attachments, both fathers were MichaelThis is.............

Cloghnashade Townland, Co. Roscommon (townlands.ie)Next door to eachother.

I tried previously without success but this time did a ten year search using their mother's maiden name (Catherine Cormican) and not only found my great grandmother (records listed her as Brigid not Bridget as she was known in the States) but also all her siblings. So if Bridget's Mothers Maiden name is Cormican, what what Bridget's surname?
or Who did Catherine Cormican marry? There is a marriage about that time in the area, a Catherine Cormican.
Bridgid or Bridget is the same. have you any sibling names, these would help.
ThanksMargot

This is amazing. My great grandfather is the second Michael Kelly. His mother was Margaret Tumelty. Is this the original record?
If you have the same thing for Brigid that was be great. She was born 12-Dec-1885. Her parents were Joseph Connor and Catherine Cormican.

That looks like the marriage record of my great great grandparents Kate Cormican and Joseph Connor. It lines up will all the other information I have plus clarifies her location. I am curious, is the source of these documents the civil records provided by the church?
One last request, do you have Brigid Connor's birth record from the same source? I have her as being born 12 Dec 1885 in Cloonlaughnan to Joseph Connor and Kate Cormican.
Thanks so much for your help.
