Seeking information about James Joseph Sweeney born 22 March 1845 and baptized 25 April 1845 Killaloe Parish. This was found online on ancestry.com records for Diocese of Killaloe Terryglass. The place where they lived looks like Sraghe, but I have trouble reading it. I'd like to know what county this is in as I realize the Diocese includes several Counties. His parents were Michael Sweeney and Mary Hogan. I'd appreciate the correct name of the place he was from also. James emigrated to the States. Married Ellen Rall in NYC and died in Long Island City 22 Feb1914.

Hi,
The address appears to be SRAGH in the Civil Parish of Finnoe and Poor Law Union of Borrisokane, County Tipperary. The baptism appears to have been in 1841.
See attached copy of Parish Record.

Is there any information on Michael Sweeney and Mary Hogan (I determined that is the correct spelling of her name, not Wogan) Were there other children. Guidance appreciated.

Evelyn,
The townland of Sragh in 1826 had a number of families named "Hogan". Reference: Tithe Applotments 1823 -1837. In the years c1850 there are none. Griffith's Valuations.
Baptismal Sponors for Matthew Sweeny in 1831 was a James Sweeny. No record found for him in the Terryglass area.
Baptismal Sponsors for James Sweeny in 1841 was a "Matthew Hogan". Possibly the Father or Brother of Mary Hogan?.
Poverty, disease and hunger caused the population to scatter in many areas, so trying to identify them today is difficult.
Best Wishes for the Future,
McCoy
