I noticed that the "Depositor" (I think this is basically a sponsor) for an immigrant (Susan Daunt) originating from Castleconnell and arriving in Australia in Sep 1864 was "Hon. Edward Deas Thomson". He was also named as Depositor for several more immigrants originating from County Limerick around that time.
Investigation shows that Edward Deas Thomson was married to "Anne Marie Bourke" whose father was Sir Richard Bourke. Sir Richard eventually returned to Castleconnell after travelling to various parts of the world including Australia and he seems to have involved with Poor Law and Lieutenant of the county etc
I am interested in tracing the ancestors of Susan Daunt, so was wondering if there could be any records of application/meetings etc regarding these immigrant sponsorships which may mention her family/circumstances?
Many thanks,
Dee

Dee,
Attached some detail in relation to the Surname Daunt in County Limerick:
William Daunt is recorded as a Carpenter in the village of Annacotty which is close to the village of Castleconnell.
I have checked for a birth record for Susan, with negative results, so far.
There is also a William Daunt leasing a house and garden from a Susan Gueran in the townland of Rivers, Parish of Killeeagarriff, Barony of Clanwilliam, Limerick.
A Susan Daunt married a George Wallington in New Souty Wales in 1865. Is she the same person?
Her marriage record should show her parents names.

Dee,
Record of a William Dee in Annacotty 1870. No record found for a Susan Daunt in Co. Limerick 1830'1840's. In the passenger list she is recorded as RC.
A James Daunt was a member of the British Military who was born in Limerick.

Dee,
Re DAUNT
Attached a record of the death of William Daunt in 1898 at Rivers, Annacotty. His death was reported by his son - Thomas Daunt - who was present at death. 1901 Irish Census records Thomas Daunt as being a retired Carpenter, 67 years of age, single and residing alone.
The record shows that he was born in Cork.
Modern map of Rivers Townland is attached. It covers part of Annacotty.
It may be difficult to get a birth record for Susan Daunt.

Many thanks McCoy for all this information, much appreciate it.
Yes Susan Daunt married a Wallington in Australia and I match DNA with several descendants there - some of these people have linked Susan to the William and Thomas Daunt that you mention.
I will follow up on these documents - I am particularly interested in the Military link, as my family were also in the British Army and moving around - hence the difficulty of knowing their origins.
Thanks again,
Dee

Hi Dee
General Richard Bourke lived at ''Thornfield'' Ahane, Lisnagry, Co. Limerick and was Gov. of New South Wales and also South Africa he was a fair and progressive man and as you say was involved in the Poor Law and the Co. Limerick Grand Jury for many years. The last of the Bourke Family passed away about two years ago. He was a man who would not suffer fools.

Thanks for the information Quain, Susan Daunt had " a native of Lisnagry" on her grave stone, so they lived in the same place. I wonder if there are any surviving notes from the Poor Law meetings?
