I have a marriage for Edmund Dillane and Mary Dillane of Galey in 1862, but this town is not listed on Google maps or in the long list of Kerry Townlabds (over 1000). Where is this town located ? Thanks, MB

  • Galey is a civil parish in northeast Kerry, not too far from Limerick.

Galey (Gaile) is a townland in Co. Roscommon.

  • You can see more info about the civil parish of Galey (in Kerry) at this link:  https://www.townlands.ie/kerry/galey/

The surname Dillane (in Irish, Ó Duilleáin) originated in the area of north Kerry and west Limerick (the county boundaries were a later creation).  Ó Duilleáin was sometimes anglicized as Dillon, but that is normally a different name (of Norman origin) found in a number of counties.

  • MB:

Galey is 14 miles northeast of Knockalougha. The Listowel is about half way between the two locations.
